BOARD BREAKING

wooden board illustration
Board breaking is an art in itself. We use it to apply the Theory of Power to our techniques. To prevent injuries, it is imperative that that student uses mental focus, body control, and proper striking tools.

An instructor must always be present when students are practicing breaking. Students must be 13 years or older in order to break boards. Students should not break any earlier than this due to their bones not being mature enough to withstand the impact. Proper breaking techniques and etiquette become apart of the testing requirements once you receive your green belt.

Breaking Material
Wood: Common Pine (grade #2 or better)
Be sure to purchase untreated 1” x 12” planks (Actual Size: 3/4" x 11-1/4").
Cut planks at 10” increments.
(Avoid large knots, high moisture content, significant splitting or warping.)
Dependent on the student’s size, they may be asked to use 6” boards instead to prevent injury.
